Asteroid Theme

Asteroid is a simple, clean and responsive WordPress theme. It incorporates various widget areas that make management of banners and ads a lot easier, especially for ad-supported sites. The theme is ideal for use on a blog, a static website or both. It has an intuitively designed options panel to help customize your site. The theme’s development focuses on user customization and minimizing HTTP requests to help conserve server resource. Asteroid supports custom header images, backgrounds, menus, full-width page templates, RTL Language Support and more.

Download WordPress themes from trusted sources like the official Theme Repository or from the author’s site. Here is Asteroid’s WordPress Page. I may update the zip file here on my blog first, before it becomes available/live on

Asteroid Theme – Blog View
This is the standard look of the theme upon installation. You can also use a static page as the homepage instead of a blog. Pages have an option to use a full-width template which you can stylize with your own HTML & CSS coding.
WordPress Theme Ads
Theme Ad & Banner Placement
Now you should never pepper your website with this much advertisement. I think 3-4 well-placed ad units would be optimal. This screenshot only shows the many placements you can use for ads and banners.

  1. I also use these themes for my blog, and I love it 🙂 . It’s just on the front page why no picture, is it because I am using an external link to the picture.

    1. Do you mean the square images like on my homepage? Read my rely on the comment by Jay below

      If no thumbnails are appearing then you probably don’t have a Featured Image selected. Featured images can be set on the post editor.

      1. Yeah, it must enter the picture again in the feature image. I think it can instantly auto-installed images that are already in post.

  2. Hi Ron ,square images on my homepage does not show (it is show on insite page when i click read more button). How to delete this>{Uncategorized} or write something else ,it is under the title to my post, and How to ad more post like screenshot on the LEFT to the top of this page.
    Thank you

    1. You have to set a Featured Image on a post to show the thumbnail. I’ve mentioned that on the last two comments below. Here’s an image on how to set it
      If your post has the “Uncategorized” category then that means you have not set a category for your post. You can choose or add one as seen on the url I posted above. You can also just hide the categories through css if you want.

      1. HI Ron , i did what you say but the picture still doesn’t show on Excerpt (first page) just on full post. “Uncategorized” i set category ,done How to adjust the page number .

        Thank you for your time!

        1. Did you make sure that “Excerpt Thumbnails” is checked on Asteroid Options -> Posts & Pages? What’s your site url?

          I use WP PageNavi plugin to add page numbers.

          1. Thank you that worked

  3. Hi i have the left screenshot theme i like it so far i am trying to find out how it works on the smartphone the picture does not show (square pic. On firts page ).how to find out.

    1. Excerpt Thumbnails are intentionally hidden on mobile devices with screens that are smaller than 320 pixels. This is done to save space since the screens are small anyway. You can make it visible by adding this code on Asteroid Options -> Custom CSS

      @media screen and (max-width:320px){
         .blog-view .entry-thumbnail {display: inline !important;}
      1. Thank Ron for you time, that worked.Can i put banner on the header of that theme?,why home ,contact ,about show on search search engines meta tag google?

        1. Can i put banner on the header of that theme?

          Yes. You can use a text widget then place it on the header widget area.

          why home ,contact ,about show on search search engines meta tag google?

          I don’t understand your question. Maybe you could explain a bit more.

  4. Hello RonI do like the theme …well done nice job .i am trying to build the site so far so good just one small problem on full post top right under the title show up “Edit this” small box like link, how i can make not to show up there,

    1. That only shows up when you are logged-in. Visitors don’t see that button. But if you really want to delete it, you can edit loop-single.php and remove line 23 which looks like this:

      <?php edit_post_link( __('Edit', 'asteroid') ); ?>
  5. works for me i use all in one seo, thanks bro 🙂

    1. The fix above was for an older version of AIO SEO. They have since fixed the plugin and made it compatible with new themes.

  6. Hello – Regarding the Asteroid theme – When we make a post to the site, it shows up in a light grey box. We are trying to change the color of the article background from grey to white. Can you help us. 🙂

    1. You could add this on the Custom CSS option.

      .blog-view { background-color: #FFFFFF; }
  7. I’m currently using the Asteroid theme in WordPress. I thought that at least 1 of the photos in my blog posts would should up in the excerpts, but it’s just text. What do I need to adjust to get a photo to appear? If you want to see what I’m talking about, please visit my blog page below:

    1. First make sure that “Excerpt Thumbnails” option is enabled. It is located on Asteroid Options -> Posts & Pages. It is also stated there that Featured Images will be used for the thumbnails. See similar question

      You can use this plugin if you don’t want to manually set a featured image for each post.

      1. Thanks for the response. For some reason, only the ‘General’ tab is populated in the Asteroid Options. I tried pulling up the ‘Post & Pages’ tab info in Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome……but all I get is a blank tab. I’ll try the plugin that you suggested. I’m keeping my fingers crossed!! Thanks again.

      2. The plugin worked like a charm! Thank you so much.

  8. I’ve been getting a crazy amount of spam, and I want to change the comments.php program to leave off the website argument. How would I modify the following line of code to do that: ”)); ?>

    1. If you’re using a child theme, you could add this on the functions.php

      function remove_comment_field_url( $field ) {
          return '';
      add_filter( 'comment_form_field_url', 'remove_comment_field_url' );

      But having no website field doesn’t really stop spammers. A lot of them just add their links on the comment body. You could consider using a plugin to handle the comments. Like the one I use here.

  9. Hi Ron, Great theme!! I recently updated WordPress and can’t access my widgets. The page looks ok, but I can’t open or reorder the widgets. The page doesn’t respond to clicks or interactions at all. Any suggestions?

    Thank you!!

    1. Try clearing your browser cache. If your using any caching plugins, you could clear/refresh that too. If the widget page works when you open it using a different browser then java-script might be turned off on the previous one you’re using.

      1. I cleared the browser cache and tried it in multiple browsers. I deleted several plugins and emptied the trash. The entire plugins page is still static — doesn’t respond at all. I have no idea what to do.

        1. Try activating the default themes instead (Twentytwelve, Twentythirteen). Then see if problem persist. Change back to Asteroid and see if the widgets work. Are you using any caching plugins like WP Super Cache or W3 Total Cache or maybe even have your site on Cloudflare?

          Widgets not responding are 90% of the time caused by javascript errors which in turn is very likely caused by caching plugins. Asteroid Theme doesn’t even have any javascript at all. I use the theme on some of my own site’s and widgets are working just fine.

          1. You’re awesome Ron — thanks! It took a while but there was one plugin that wasn’t groovin’ with my setup. 🙂

  10. wonderful
    can i use this theme in blogger ??

    1. This theme is only available for WordPress.

  11. I love Asteroid theme!

  12. the best! 🙂
    tanx 😀

  13. I used this theme on one of my sites. Have to say it’s fantastic, with a very retro style that really sticks out, especially with the tiled background. Thanks.

  14. very nice, clean and fast to it

  15. I would like to know how to make the double header can be one for the title and one for a banner
    this is possible?

    1. Use the header widget area for the banner.

      If you want the banner to go below the title then add this on Asteroid Options -> Custom CSS

      #widgets-wrap-header {
          clear: both;
          display: block;
